Call for Academic Papers

Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce the creation of an academic section of the 2019 Sport Lawyers Association (SLA) Conference that is to be held on May 15, 2019. Presenters will then attend the remainder of the SLA conference that will take place May 16-18, 2019 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix, AZ. SLA is a non-profit, international, professional organization whose common goal is the understanding, advancement and ethical practice of sports law. There are over 1,400 current members: practicing lawyers, law educators, law students, and other professionals with an interest in law relating to professional and amateur sports. For more on the history of SLA, please visit https://www.sportslaw.org/about/history.cfm. For information on the benefits of SLA membership, please visit https://www.sportslaw.org/membership/index.cfm.

The purpose of the new academic section of SLA is to bring industry and the academy together and to introduce SLA membership to the timely research conducted on sport law topics. The academic section of the conference will take place on May 15, 2019. The deadline to submit is 11:59pm Eastern on February 27, 2019. Papers will be peer-reviewed based on their relevance and contribution to the field of sport law. Only completed papers will be considered. All submissions should be in PDF format and sent to Ryan Rodenberg and Thomas Baker.

Only papers that have not have been published (in an academic journal or law review) as of January 1, 2019 are eligible for consideration. Papers that have been accepted for publication are eligible for inclusion so long as they have not been published by January 1, 2019. The review committee will make its selections on or before March 15, 2019. All presenters whose papers have been selected for inclusion will be named in the agenda and must register (and pay the appropriate registration fee) for the 2019 SLA Conference. The review process will be highly-selective, so please understand if your submission is not accepted for this first-ever SLA academic session.

We hope to see you all in beautiful Phoenix for SLA 2019!
